Growing up in Oklahoma, my mother insisted that I learn two things: how to swim and how to read. I was five at the time, and I devoured the Beginning Reader series of books. Plenty of Seuss as well as other children’s authors. However, it was the family purchase of the World Book Encyclopedia that grabbed my attention.
